There’s a hell of a lot of downloading going on this console generation. If it’s not games, it’s patches and DLC for games. Either way, the download sizes are flippin’ massive. Enter the new 1TB Xbox One bundle with – you guessed it – 1 terabyte of storage.

What you might not have guessed, though, is that it comes with a new and improved controller too. It also has a nice-looking matte black finish, of the kind that repels greasy fingerprints and probably goes with your telly.

Best of all? It costs a very reasonable £349 and it’s already out (as of 10 June 2015).

A closer look at the new XB1 controller

Who’d have thought we’d see a major revision to the Xbox One Wireless Controller so soon after the console’s launch – especially after the initial focus on Kinect (which is nowhere to be seen in the new 1TB bundle) and the instant perfection of the 360 pad?

Well it’s here anyway, and it’s packing:

A 3.5mm stereo jack for using any old headset. Volume, mic monitoring, and voice and game audio balance are adjusted through the console settings.
Improved bumper buttons
Wireless firmware updates (no more plugging it in to the console!)
Black and silver/black camo varieties
Xbox One Jack

No bundled Halo: MCC for the UK

Microsoft had also announced that the new 1TB XB1 bundle would come with Halo: The Master Chief Collection “in select regions for a limited time.” Sadly the UK isn’t one of those regions. But £349 still a pretty great deal for the most capacious console ever released.

Some stores are bundling Ori and the Blind Forest instead, which by all accounts is a phenomenal game.

500GB Xbox One price cut to £299

There are a few reasons you might still prefer the 500GB XB1 bundle – mainly if you still buy all your games on disc – and Microsoft has just provided another.
They’ve permanently dropped the price of the 500GB model to only £299. And that’s bound to come down even further in the inevitable price war.

‘But there was already a 1TB Xbox One…’

Yep, well remembered. The Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare bundle was released back in November 2014, and came with a 1TB Xbox One.

But now’s there a 1TB model for people who don’t want a military-style paint-job on their console. And it’s a lot cheaper too!

Your move, PS4

With Xbox having made the step up to 1TB, people who still obsess over which console is ‘better’ will be wondering what Sony will do to keep up. Well, unsurprisingly, it looks almost certain they’ll be releasing a 1TB PlayStation 4 console in the very near future.

In fact, records from the FCC in America show the new 1TB PS4 is all but ready to go. So fear not: storage parity will soon be restored.
