Earlier today saw the Pokémon Company hold a ‘Pokémon Presents’ digital presentation where it provided ample updates on upcoming games like Legends Arceus, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. One of the biggest surprises, however, was that a new Nintendo Switch Lite colour variant would be launching alongside the latter two remakes known as the ‘Dialga and Palkia edition’ – named after Diamond and Pearl’s cover Pokémon.
The Dialga and Palkia edition Nintendo Switch Lite releases on the same day as the Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes, featuring a mostly gunmetal grey design that pays homage to the similarly themed Nintendo DS Lite released back in 2006. This new Nintendo Switch Lite SKU will launch the same day as the Sinnoh region’s return, arriving on Friday 5th November 2021. Pre-orders are yet to go love, but we’ll be sure to update this post when that changes.
The design of the Lite variant itself is predominantly gunmetal grey as mentioned, but both cover Pokémon can be seen on the console’s back panel. Palkia is featured in Gold while Dialga comes etched in silver. This marks the first limited-edition Nintendo Switch Lite since Coral Pink, and is a bit of a curveball seeing as the new Nintendo Switch – OLED Edition launches just a month before. Why no exclusive Pokémon edition for that? Either way, this design is nice and should encourage players to “catch ‘em all” on the go.
At the time of writing it’s unclear just how much the Dialga and Palkia edition Nintendo Switch will retail for here in the UK. However, this mostly depends on whether Nintendo plans on selling this separately or with a version of either Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl built in. The Pokémon Company which option will be available when the new Lite edition launches this November 5th.
