PlayStation has cultivated quite the selection of first-party exclusives in the years leading up to 2020. From Greek god action epics to art-based adventure stories that sees you wield the power of graffiti, you can bet there’s plenty of diverse games to jump into on PlayStation 4. However, just because the current console is reaching its end this year doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to look forward to – both on the first and third-party side of things.

That’s why we thought it worth taking stock of the best 10 upcoming PlayStation 4 games in 2020, all in the hopes of notifying dedicated players which ones may suit their tastes. Granted, the following is an incomplete list as there’s likely so many unannounced games also arriving in 2020, but that’s why we’ve solely punted for the top 10 titles we do know about. So, PS4 players take a deep breath, because there’s plenty to get excited about coming in 2020.

1. Nioh 2 – March 13, 2020

The sequel to Team Ninja’s 2017 action-adventure, Nioh 2 is actual a prequel set during the feudal Japan period that refines the exploration/combat formula to the nth degree. As any fan of the Soulsborne genre will know, the enemy encounters are tricky, testing and will absolutely try your patience. Push through, however, and the sense of reward you get for growing your character is incredibly high. Nioh 2 advances on ideas first presented in the original, including new ways to upgrade weapons, new regions to explore and even an all-new three-player co-op mode.

2. Doom Eternal – March 20, 2020

One of last year’s biggest disappointments was the news that Doom Eternal would be missing its 2019 release date. However, redemption came from the fact that it’d at least be arriving early on in 2020, where this sequel to Id Software’s rebooted classic would introduce fresh ways to disembody legions of demons using big guns, even bigger fists and a grappling hook? Doom Eternal successfully iterates upon the satisfying sense of ‘push-forward’ combat introduced in the first, where players are encouraged to be brave against enemies rather than hide and cower. Will Doom Eternal deliver? We’ll find out when it hits PS4 on March 20th.

3. Resident Evil 3 – April 3, 2020

Piggybacking off the success of 2019’s 21st century remake of Resident Evil 2, it seems fitting that the game’s canonical sequel receive the same HD treatment for 2020. Resident Evil 3 will once again cast you as Jill Valentine, who is forced to traverse the zombie-infested Raccoon City as a giant undead hunter, known as Nemesis, is in swift pursuit. Expect to see the same sense of creepy atmosphere, gooey body parts and classic survival horror gameplay. The Resident Evil 3 remake looks to be one of 2020’s best releases for PlayStation 4.

4. Final Fantasy VII Remake – April 10, 2020

One of the biggest PS4 releases of the year is also one of the most well-known stories ever told on the platform. That’s because, via the Final Fantasy VII remake landing in March 2020, Cloud Strife and gang all return in their 21st century HD glory. April’s release will mark just the first part of this story, in which one of the most beloved Final Fantasy entries gets an overhaul, with an all-new real-time battle system, improved graphics and various other tweaks – all in the hopes of enticing players new and old. Final Fantasy VII Remake is an early one to watch out for.

5. Cyberpunk 2077 – April 16, 2020

CDProjektRed has quickly become known as one of the best game developers working today, largely due to their amazing work on 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Even before that game’s release, though, we knew that the company’s next title would not be set in the fantasy realm, but rather in the neon-laced future. Cyberpunk 2077 looks to be one of the most open-ended RPGs every released, setting you off within the decrepit world of Night City to make yourself known within the underground criminal empire. Pulling heavily from other bouts of sci-fi cinema and literature, you’ll be able to upgrade yourself, hack into buildings and much more when Cyberpunk arrives in April.

6. The Last of Us: Part II – May 29, 2020

Often hailed by players and critics alike as one of the greatest games of all time, saying that this sequel to 2013’s The Last of Us has a lot to live up to is one hell of an understatement. Part II fast forwards events by a couple of years to pick up on the story of an older Ellie and Joel, both of whom are still attempting to survive within a ravaged version of Earth plagued by plant-infested clickers. You’ll mainly be stepping into the shoes of Ellie rather than Joel this time around, yet again embarking on an emotional and sometimes unsettling journey to find some sort of life. May 20th can’t come soon enough for PS4 players.

7. Marvel’s Avengers – September 4th, 2020

PlayStation 4 is no stranger to making a massive deal about Marvel heroes. After all, one of 2018’s best games was none other than Marvel’s Spider-Man. 2020 will see the platform attempt to have lightning strike twice, not with just one hero this time around but many. Marvel’s Avengers arrives in September, being developed by Crystal Dynamics – the folks behind the beloved Tomb Raider series. Marvel’s Avengers promises to be a story-driven action RPG where you play as multiple heroes like Iron Man, Captain America and Black Widow, jumping into missions with friends.

8. Ghost of Tsushima – TBC 2020

It came as a surprise to learn that Sucker Punch, the studio behind Sly Cooper and inFamous, would be working on an open-world game set in feudal Japan next. It represents a marked change for the studio who look to be opting for a more series tone in Ghost of Tsushima, offering players the ability to learn the ways of the samurai in this third-person action-adventure. There’s no official release date yet other than simply 2020, but with PS5 set to arrive before the end of the year, we’d say expect it around Summer time.

9. Dying Light 2 – TBC 2020

The first Dying Light game was a surprise smash hit, arriving early on within the Xbox One and PlayStation 4’s lifecycles to give us one of the most memorable takes on the zombie genre in quite some time. That game came out in 2015, however, leaving many wondering why it’s taken so long to get to Dying Light 2. Well, this open-world sequel sets players in an all-new fictional setting where how you choose to act and treat people affects the environment around you. Dying Light 2 is a post-apocalyptic game where your choices matter, and how you choose to handle the zombie hordes even more so. Look forward to its release in 2020.

10. Watch Dogs Legion – TBC 2020

It’s rare for a Ubisoft game to suffer a delay, but then that’s how you know that the big-time publisher is series about this latest entry into the Watch Dogs series. Legion once again sets players off within a tech-infused future where you player as a hacker, only now you can recruit general members of the public and use them as tools to get where you need your organisation to be. Watch Dogs Legion also offers an incredibly detailed rendition of futuristic London, making us all the more eager for its 2020 arrival on PlayStation 4.
