In between all the delays, COVID-19 woes and potential dev layoffs, lord knows the video game industry was in need of some good news right now. Luckily, Nintendo was happy to step in with a pre-recorded Nintendo Direct that featured some announcements which were really quite staggering. This isn’t your mam’s indie-focussed Direct, oh no, but a full 30-minute presentation that included plenty of cool nuggets of information.

2K bringing Bioshock, XCOM 2 and Borderlands to Nintendo Switch

One of the biggest surprises from today’s direct was the news that publisher 2K games would be porting a whole roster of its games to the platform on May 29th. These include the Bioshock Collection, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and XCOM 2, all of which are a perfect fit for Nintendo’s hybrid handheld. XCOM 2 especially, as it centres on tactical turn-based action.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s next DLC fighter is from Arms

While the specific character is still unknown, today’s Direct revealed that the next DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s second Fighter Pass would be from Arms. The character is set to arrive as early as June 6th, and it was hinted at that the character’s unique extendable arms will absolutely be made use of in game. We cannot wait to see how they play!

Two classic Star Wars games confirmed to launch on Switch

Ever since Disney acquired LucasFilm in 2012, the vault of classic Star Wars titles have been released here and there on all three consoles. Today, it was revealed that Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is available to download NOW from the Nintendo eShop. And better yet, Star Wars Episode One: Racer would be coming in the near future. May the force be with you!

Burnout Paradise Remastered coming soon to Nintendo Switch

One of the most beloved open-world racers of all time is Burnout Paradise, which was recently remastered and updated for the PS4 and Xbox One. However, it was revealed today that this version would now also be making its way over to Nintendo Switch some time in 2020. Let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later so we can put pedal to the metal on the go.

More details given about Pokémon Sword and Shield’s first expansion

While it was already announced earlier this year that Pokémon Sword and Shield would be getting an expansion pass in lieu of the traditional third, expanded version, today’s Direct highlighted some new info about the first half: The Isle of Armour. In short: Kub-Fu is a new legendary Pokémon, new customisation options coming to league cards and outfits. It will launch by the end of June 2020.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition looking better than ever

The Nintendo Direct open with a new look at the previously announced Definitive Edition of Xenoblapde Chronicles. Originally a Nintendo exclusive that launched on the Wii U, its sequel was one of the earliest examples of a massive 3D JRPG on Switch. Wondering where it all started? Despite there being no release date just yet, you’ll get to experience it in the first game some time later this year.

All these announcements and many more. See for yourself:
