The new Battlefront might be the first game with graphics beautiful enough to make you feel like you're in a Star Wars movie. And you'd have to be as dumb as Jar Jar Binks to deny what a technical masterpiece the PS4/XBO generation's first Star Wars game really is.

But is it the best of all time?

We can't answer that without going back and looking at some of the classic Star Wars games of years gone by.

So if you're fed up with Battlefront and you need more Star Wars in your life, these are the games you're looking for.

Star Wars (1983, Atari arcade)

The Star Wars movies are known for their great design, and the first video game based on them didn’t spoil that reputation. Atari’s arcade Star Wars was a first-person Death Star run with ground-breaking vector graphics and an amazing sit-down cabinet.

Worth checking out if you can find one.

Super Star Wars (1992, SNES)

This SNES exclusive platformer was definitely a reason for MegaDrive owners to get jealous. It looked great, played well, and even let you play as Han and Chewie - not just boring old Luke.

The great news? Super Star Wars is now available on PS4 and PS Vita too.

X-Wing (1993, PC)

My 13-year-old self-owned a 386 PC in 1993, which was just about fast enough to run X-Wing. I’m glad it was because X-Wing, like its sequels TIE Fighter and X-Wing Vs. TIE Fighter, was a brilliant sim-style space combat game with deep controls and loads to do.

I have no idea why this series hasn’t been rebooted yet, but the sooner that happens the better.

Dark Forces (1995, PC, PlayStation)

Dark Forces and its sequels were basically Doom crossed with Star Wars, which meant good graphics (for the time) and roaming through the Star Wars universe in first-person.

Star Wars Episode I: Racer (1999, N64, Dreamcast, PC)

The Nintendo 64 was a graphical beast hampered by cartridge size limits. But in the right hands, it did amazing things - like this colourful classic racer based on the pod racing sequence from The Phantom Menace.

The developers must’ve realised the movie stank, and focused their game on one of its few good moments. Nice move.

The Force is strong with these games...

So that's our list - five genuine Star Wars classics that are well worth chasing down. If your favourite isn't here, be sure to share it in the comments!
