Despite releasing to mixed reviews, PlayStation’s latest big-budget first-party title, Days Gone, has this weekend climbed the sales charts to become the biggest physical sales release of 2019 so far. Competition was fierce fought again NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat 11 which came in at number two, but it seems that PS4 players still aren’t bored of Zombies or ravaged landscapes and as such Days Gone has soared to the top spot!

It’s worth noting that this feat only includes physical in-store sales of Days Gone, with digital versions sold through the PSN unaccounted for. However, it still beat such major 2019 releases as Capcom's Resident Evil 2 and Ubisoft's Far Cry: New Dawn and The Division 2 – an impressive milestone, even in 2019, when you consider that Days Gone is only available on just one platform: PS4.

Setting players off within an apocalyptic version of America’s Pacific Northwest, Days Gone is arguably PS4’s biggest release of the year so far, with it being heavily speculated that Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2 will launch around October of 2019. It follows Deacon St. John’s journey to reunite with his wife, uncovering a government conspiracy while clearing out infestation zones full of zombies and completing supply runs for the surrounding survivor communities.

It’s good to know that players are still hungry for a post-apocalyptic game of this type, but it’d be wise to attribute a lot of Days Gone’s runaway success to the various bundles Game, Curry’s and other retailers bundled it in with. For no added cost, it wasn’t unreasonable to pick up the game for free when picking up a new PS4 Slim or PS4 Pro.
