While recently it’s often felt like triple-A publishers have been biding their time during the first half of 2020, June is the month where things get serious for pretty much every console platform. Not only does it see cult classic games faithfully restored (a running theme for this year), but you have publishers like Sony about to make waves with the release of a certain apocalyptic sequel.
So, whether you want to explore a near endless universe on the go, engage in wild west gun battles entirely in real time or have a hankering for a remade Nickleodeon classic, here’s a detailed breakdown of every new big game releasing on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch in June 2020.
Previously released late last year for PS4, Xbox One and PC, June 5th finally sees Nintendo Switch players able to check out Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds. An open-ended first-person RPG themed very much in the same spirit of the Fallout games, the story sees you explore the pulpy and highly satirical system of Halycon after waking up from a prolonged cryosleep. From here you’ll endlessly customise and upgrade your lowly adventuring, making tough decisions that will affect each planet’s inhabitants for better or for worse. The choice is yours!
A new cowboy game will always be cause for celebration. Proving this yet again is Desperados 3’s release on Xbox One, PC and PS4 this June 16th. A prequel to the cult classic Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive from 2001, this new take on the tactical stealth series tests players to co-ordinate their plan of attack cleverly. Doing so could make the difference between taking down large cowboy gangs or them getting the best of you. You’ll switch between 5 distinct characters, each with their own unique skills, battling your way through a story-driven single-player filled with classic Wild West scenarios.

Most notable for being developed by the man who created Master Chief, Disintegration is a different kind of sci-fi first-person shooter set to release on PS4, Xbox One and PC on June 16th. It sees players step into the role of Romer Shoal, an expert Gravcycle pilot who dominates the battle by commanding the action from above. Through this you’ll defend what little of humanity remains, taking down the robot menace in this curious mix of traditional FPS and top-down strategy. Promising frenetic PVP multiplayer alongside an in-depth campaign, Disintegration is one of the most original-looking sci-fi worlds we’ve seen in quite a while.
Picking up almost immediately where the original left off, The Last of Us Part II continues the story of Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed third-person survival game by revisiting Joel and Ellie’s now fractured relationship. The bulk of the campaign takes place five years after the first game, with Ellie fending off a mysterious Christian cult who has wronged her. The Last of Us Part II features the same mic of shooting, crafting and stealth killing, fleshing out this ravaged universe with a tale 7 years in the making. Look forward to it releasing exclusively on PS4 this June 19th.
Built entirely from the ground up for PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom returns in this self-proclaimed ‘Rehydrated’ edition that features remade visuals, restored sections cut from the original game and a brand new horde that’s playable in two-player co-op. It’s the same fun 3D platformer those that have played it before will love, albeit presented in a way that makes it feel like a contemporary release. The cult classic lives again via Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated on June 23rd.
