A buyer's guide for the new Fornite edition purple Xbox One S

Purple is universally recognised as the colour of grandeur and royalty. So what better way is there to get the royal video game treatment than by picking up the new Xbox One S Fortnite Battle Royale Special Edition bundle releasing this Friday 7th June?

You can buy the bundle from Microsoft Store at the link above, but this guide will explain everything you need to know about why this limited edition Xbox One is worth picking up - including how to find the best deals (see the foot of the page), what’s included in the box and whether it’s likely to sell out. We’ve seen Xbox One console bundles tied into Epic’s Fornite Battle Royale before, but this new purple variant differs every so slightly in a few ways. Here's how.

What's in the Xbox One S Fortnite Battle Royale Special Edition?

Firstly, before you consider picking it up, you’ll obviously want to know what’s included in the Xbox One S Fortnite Battle Royale Special Edition. You obviously get the console (with 1TB of storage), a standard wireless Xbox One controller, 2,000 V-Bucks to be spent in-game and special cosmetic items that aren’t available for purchase outside of this bundle. If you’re wondering where your copy of Fortnite Battle Royale is – there isn’t one, because it’s readily free for anyone to download and play. Just asked your 10-year old nephew!

The Xbox One S Fortnite Battle Royale Special Edition bundle also comes with a month-long free trial of Xbox Game Pass, a subscription service that lets you access over 100 games, and another 30-day trial of Xbox Live Gold. Gold is what’s required to play online on Xbox One, so bear in mind when considering your purchase that this will expire unless you renew.

Back to the special items mentioned, and it should come as no surprise to learn than these are primarily cosmetic. The particular set that comes with this Xbox One S Fortnite Battle Royale Special Edition is known as the Dark Vertex Cosmetic set, gifting players with a cool royal purple mask and suit, as well as a similarly themed and styled Epic Glider and Rare Pickaxe. These aren’t currently attainable anywhere else other than this new Xbox One S bundle. This will change, however, just not in the immediate future.

Where to buy the Xbox One S Fortnite Battle Royale Special Edition

Judging by everything we’ve heard so far, the Xbox One S Fortnite Battle Royale Special Edition bundle will be relatively easy to come by. It’ll ship in the West on 7th June 2019 and will retail for $299.00. Here in the UK, however, it retails for just shy of £250. It’s be on sale from GAME, Amazon, Currys PC World and other online heavy hitters, but you can be assured that we here at Gaming Deals will always pull in the best price from a wide swathe of respected retailers.

Will the Xbox One S Fortnite Battle Royale Special Edition sell out?

While the Xbox One S Fortnite Battle Royale Special Edition bundle is pretty visually striking, there’s no indication that this so-called “limited” edition will be all that limited. It’s currently up for pre-order on certain US sites (as well as Microsoft itself) for instance, so don’t worry too much about not being able to find one on the digital store shelf.

Xbox One enjoyed its first Fornite bundle way back in 2018 featuring a White 1TB console and a legendary Eon cosmetic skin. It’s looking like that relationship between Epic and Microsoft is still going strong.
