While September might go down as one of the biggest release months for games in 2019, this is a feat that looks to be quickly being matched by October. Yes, we’re officially in the thick of all the year’s biggest releases, with the likes of Call of Duty, Witcher 3 and other heavy hitters arriving across platforms throughout the whole month.
Whether you play primarily on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch or all three, October is sure to have plenty for you to get excited about. Proving this is Gaming Deals’ monthly round-up documenting every new big game coming out. And not only that, but below we’ll also use our accurate comparison tech to help you find the best price for each.
So, without further ado, here’s all the biggest games coming out during the year’s spookiest month:
Destiny 2: Shadowkeep (October 1st)
Right away we’re already cheating a bit by including on this list, not a full-scale game, but rather a very big expansion. Shadowkeep has been in the works for Destiny 2 for quite a while, and it will finally arrive right at the start of the month. It introduces a wealth of fresh content including new destinations, new story missions and a whole new raid. What’s more, you don’t even the base version of Destiny 2 to jump in. All you need is Shadowkeep and off you go!
Ghost Recon Breakpoint (October 4th)
The highly anticipated follow-up to Ghost Recon Wildlands, Breakpoint continues taking the series into a more open-world format that this time will see you go up against a former Ghost agent gone rogue. This new faction is known as the Wolves, headed up by the one and only original rogue played by star of The Walking Dead and The Punisher Jon Bernthal. Ghost Recon Breakpoint is still delivers the same expert blend of exploration and tactical third-person shooting, reversing roles so you’re the hunted instead of the hunter.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered (October 4th)
No month seemingly goes by these days without its fair share of ports, remakes or remasters. October’s offering of this nature comes in the form of Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered, which brings the original 2009 tie-in game to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It’s the same great Ghostbusters threequel some may have played before, setting players on a new story that takes place immediately after the events of Ghostbusters II. Now, however, the game features improved textures, character models and environments, letting you bust ghosts more believably than before.
Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair (October 8th)
The original Yooka Laylee was developed to be a clear hearken back to the days of N64 3D platformers, seeking to lovingly replicate classic games like Banjo Kazooie and Conker’s Bad Fur Day with a vibrant colour palette and fun platforming gameplay. Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair works slightly differently, acting as a 2D side-scroller that lets players experience the world and these characters from an entirely new perspective.
Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince (October 8th)
The Trine games are unique 2D platformers in that players not only play as one character, but are able to switch between three. Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince sees the return of Amadeus, Pontius and Zoya and all their respective unique skills, using each of them to traverse a colourful land being threatened by a dark force. Trine 4 is also totally playable in co-op as well as alone, so grab a few controllers and jump in with friends to experience the game to its fullest.
Concrete Genie (October 9th)
Concrete Genie might be what some would deem as an ‘artsy’ game but trust us that it looks to be one of the good kind. It tells the story of a lowly teen who finds himself lost within a world of darkness, swiftly tasked with bringing colour back via art. Concrete Genie boasts an incredibly unique art style that leans into a painterly aesthetic, working in tandem with dedicated motion controllers that let players faithfully replicate the feeling of being an artist. If you’re after a charming game to play in 2019, look no further than Concrete Genie.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition (October 15th)
October 15th has turned out to be one hell of a big day for the Nintendo Switch, not least because it’s getting one of the biggest, most revered fantasy RPGs of all time come to the platform. The Witcher: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition features the base game, plus all additional content, into one neat package. You play as Geralt of Rivera, a monster slayer/bounty hunter in search of his long-lost daughter. There’s upwards of 100 hours of gameplay awaiting when Witcher 3 lands on Switch.
Overwatch Legendary Edition (October 15th)
The second huge release coming to Nintendo Switch on October 15th is Overwatch. As one of the most popular online shooters played today, Switch players will soon be able to enjoy the incredibly diverse maps and objectives that make up what many people consider to be the best hero shooter since Team Fortress 2. All of the characters boast different skills and attributes which makes them an asset in every tense scenario, whether focussed on dealing damage or healing teammates. Jump into the colourful action of Overwatch this October.
WWE 2K20 (October 22nd)
The latest instalment into 2K’s long-standing wrestling game series looks to be one of the best yet, featuring an updates roster of superstars, a flurry of gameplay improvements and an all-new career mode that will let you customise your own character. All your favourite WWE superstars have been faithfully recreated, including plenty of past legends and hall of famers that have never been seen in a WWE 2K game before.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (October 25th)
The much beloved Call of Duty Modern Warfare subseries is making its comeback this month, looking to update what the concept means and reinvent the world of global warfare for 2019. A blockbuster style yet totally grounded single-player campaign is accompanied by a glut of multiplayer options, including the return of the two-player focussed Spec Ops mode. Could this be a return to form for the world’s best-selling first-person shooter? We’ll find out on October 25th when COD Modern Warfare PS4 and Xbox One makes itself known.
The Outer Worlds (October 25th)
We’ve already covered why we’re so excited about The Outer Worlds in a separate blog post, but what excites us more is all the things we don’t know about the game. It’s clearly a spiritual successor to the fan-favourite Fallout New Vegas made by the same development team, albeit a much zanier take that isn’t afraid to poke fun of itself. You only need be reminded that every NPC is ‘killable’ in The Outer Worlds universe, reinforcing this space-based RPG’s affluent tagline: “The future is yours. Try not to break it.”
Luigi’s Mansion 3 (October 31st)
Finally, rounding out this jam-packed lost of October games, is the return of the cult classic Luigi’s Mansion series. This third entry is the first to be rendered in full HD, coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch and letting players hoover up as many ghosts as possible while working their way up the many floors of a spooky hotel. Featuring all new multiplayer options that will see you and team of others go up against a team of ‘Goouigis’, Luigi’s Mansion 3 is the perfect family-friendly game to jump on this Halloween.
