We’re now mere weeks away from the biggest industry games
event of the year. E3 may have sat it out last year due to the ongoing pandemic,
but it returns in 2021 as a digital event full of exciting announcements and
presentations set to take place virtually over livestream. Nintendo, of course,
was the progenitor of this format in tightly-packaged Nintendo Directs. That’s
why it should come as no surprise that they have big plans in store for this
year!
The Nintendo Direct E3 2021 presentation has been given an
official date and time, as revealed earlier today on twitter. It kicks off on
June 15th, 2021 at 5pm BST here in the UK, and will last for roughly
40 minutes. The tweet revealed that the Direct will focus exclusively on
software – more specifically games that are “mostly releasing in 2021”. This
initial 40 minutes will be followed by three hours of in-depth gameplay courtesy
of Nintendo’s Treehouse team.

Tune in for a #NintendoDirect with roughly 40 minutes of info focused exclusively on #NintendoSwitch software, mostly releasing in 2021, followed by around 3 hours of gameplay in #NintendoTreehouseLive | E3 2021.

News of the E3 Direct follows recent rumours that the Japanese
tech giant will also soon be announcing a revamped version of its console, the
Nintendo Switch, which is reportedly planned to ship ahead of the holiday
season. Nintendo itself is yet to comment on this scuttlebutt, but news site
Bloomberg claims to have reputable sources. Will the E3 Direct make mention of
the so-called Switch Pro? It would make sense if it’s revealed ahead of June 15th
as some have suggested.
Fans will be hoping for updates on major games like
Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4 and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 as
part of the E3 2021 Direct. All three of the games mentioned haven’t been heard
from for several years, and using the word “hence” in its own wording does
leave Nintendo to also talk about the far future. Until then, we still don’t
know most of the Nintendo Switch’s first-party release slate going into the
latter half of the year, so expect that to be touched upon.
