Days of Play, Sony's annual gaming celebration and offer period, has become a bit of a staple of the gaming calendar. Offering some enticing discounts just before E3 unleashes a whole load of exciting new titles, Days of Play runs for 11 days from the 8th of June.

However, this year the promotion is particularly exciting, as it comes with a special limited edition Slim console. Sony have released various limited edition versions of the PS4 recently to coincide with new titles. The reaction to these special designs has been mixed to say the least. Some of the common criticisms has centred on the missed opportunities these designs have presented. When compared to the special edition Sea of Thieves Xbox One controller, they often look a bit plain.

However, sometimes less is more. That's certainly case with the beautiful new Days of Play version, which combines a simple design with a navy, gold and black colour scheme to dramatic effect. The iconic button logos are present on the top of the console and on the controller track pads.

In-keeping with the Days of Play, the console will come packaged with two controllers rather than the standard one. We've seen Sony do this before with the limited edition gold and silver consoles. It seems to have worked well enough there to encourage them to do the same again.

The console appears only to be available with a 500GB hard drive, and there's no suggestion that a similar colour scheme will be available on the Pro model. The retail price will be £249.99, which isn't bad at all considering the extra controller. However, you'll want to be quick. If stocks last beyond the 18th (the last day of the Days of Play promotion), the price goes up to £259.99.

All the information about the Days of Play discounts can be found on the PlayStation blog.
