Another month, another time for Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus subscribers to find out what FREE treats PS4 and Xbox One has in store for them this time. And we’re pleased to report that both platforms have seemingly pulled out all the stops for March 2020, once again offering players a wide crop of games that offer a good amount of variety. Here’s what subscribers have to look forward to…
As per usual, Xbox Live Gold subscribers have no less than four titles to look forward to this month – two Xbox One games and two Xbox 360 games that can still be played on Xbox One via backwards compatibility. Both arriving on March 1st are Batman: The Enemy Within – The Complete Season for Xbox One and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, which was originally an Xbox 360 release. Then, two weeks later, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero replaces Batman and Sonic Generations boosts onto Xbox Live Gold as the Xbox 360 game of choice.
Below we’ve broken down what you can expect from each game:
Batman: The Enemy Within – The Complete Season: This Telltale classic serves as the Batman series’ second season, handily bundling in all five episodes that sees the caped crusader fend off against Mr. Freeze and Harley Quinn in a fresh take. Make decisions, choose your battles and protect the city of Gotham, all as the man who would be The Joker slowly takes shape.
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero: Those that enjoy classic Metroidvania side-scrollers will absolutely be pleased by the inclusion of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero on this month’s Games with Gold list. This is actually the fourth entry into WayForward’s acclaimed Shantae series, being one of the first to move away from pixels into a more traditional cartoon-like aesthetic. Get ready to whip your hair back and forth.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2: The Lords of Shadow sub-series of games was when Castlevania turned more to third-person action, akin to classic-style God of War. Set during the Medieval period, you play as Dracula following on from the events of the first game, battling demons and angels within an incredibly gothic open world.
Sonic Generations: Hot on the heels of the blue hedgehog taking Hollywood by storm, Xbox are treating Sega fans by offering up Sonic Generations as one of the two 360 games playable on Xbox One. Players take on the guise of both modern and classic Sonic, barrelling through many of the franchise’s iconic locations in this ultimate celebration.
PS Plus subscribers playing on PS4 also have a stellar month of free games to look forward to, with Sony equally showing Sega’s infamous blue hedgehog a lot of love. As is typically the case, both Sonic Forces and the 2018 Shadow of the Colossus remake will be available for members to download on the first Tuesday of the month. In this case, March 3rd.
Shadow of the Colossus: Originally a PS2 game released in 2005, Team ICO beautifully melancholic boss rush action game received a ground-up remake for PS4 back in 2017. This is the version PS Plus members are treated to this month, as they take on the role of a lone wandered forced to take down 12 hulking colossi in the bid to revive its lost lover. A one-of-a-kind experience!
Sonic Forces: One of the better modern Sonic the Hedgehog games, Sonic Forces is unique in that you only play as the titular hero for some of the campaign. For the rest you create your own character, fighting side by side alongside Tails, Knuckles and friends while attempting to stop Dr. Eggman. You’ll be using gadgets, speed and skill to bomb it through various fun stages, all in this nice blend of 2D and 3D Sonic gameplay.
