In preparation for the upcoming launch of Nintendo Labo’s VR Kit for Nintendo Switch, it’s been revealed that two of the console’s biggest games will each feature compatible modes. Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild both receive the virtual reality treatment in some fashion, affording players the opportunity to get closer to their favourite Nintendo worlds.
Details are still relatively scarce, but we do know that Super Mario Odyssey’s VR compatibility will come by way of a new bonus mode that offers up a series of “mini-missions” designed specifically for VR. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, by comparison, appears set to let players experience the game in its entirety disregarding any cutscenes. No Hyrule Shrine is safe!
These VR renditions are in addition to Toy-Con 04: VR Kit’s already announced mini-games that are included right out of the box. The Starter set retails for $39.99, but a mega pack containing all goodies will cost you in the region of $79.99. We speculated whether or not any existing Nintendo titles would get a splash of VR wizardry back when it was first announced, so it’s good to see that no option is seemingly off the table.
Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild coming to Nintendo Labo VR might give it the amount of “oomph” needed to compete with the likes of PlayStation VR, Oculus and HTC Vive. Now that we know that first-party titles aren’t off the table, what Nintendo game would you like to see get the VR treatment? We’re hoping for some Mario Kart 8: Deluxe love.
