The end of the month means it’s almost time for the next crop of Games with Gold and PS Plus games to be released. And with the world still currently on lockdown, there’s arguably never been a better time to make the most of your online membership. Luckily, May seems to be yet another solid month, covering all manner of genres regardless of if you play primarily on PS4, Xbox One, or a mixture of both. What will you be playing in May? Let’s take a look:
Xbox One’s Games with Gold selection features yet another eclectic mix of downloadable titles, whether you’re in the mood of a fast-paced racer or an arcade-like approach to footie. It all kicks off on May 1st (tomorrow at the time of writing) when V-Rally 4 arrives to let you tear up the track. Alongside it at the beginning of the month is Sensible World of Soccer playable on both Xbox One and Xbox 360. The other dual release will be downloadable on May 16th and is Overlord 2. The last Xbox One Games with Gold title, Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr, releases the same day.
Here’s a brief breakdown for each game, explaining what players can look forward to:
V-Rally 4: Initially released not too long ago in 2018, V-Rally 4 tasks players with an affinity for racing to maintain pole position on the dirt track. It features a hopping 51 cars for you to get behind the wheel of, with brands such as Porche, Skoda and Norma all handling as realistically as possible. Take to the track when V-Rally 4 can be claimed by Games with Gold members on May 1st.
Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr: There have been several game adapations of the Warhammer universe, but those wanting a top-down Action-RPG featuring flowing combat should absolutely check out Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr. It’s your chance to experience this sprawling universe from a fresh perspective, laying waste to every enemy standing in your way as you explore an open sandbox-style world.
Sensible World of Soccer: 2D football games simply don’t get any better than the Sensible Soccer series. You can jump back into this more arcade-like approach to the beautiful game when Sensible World of Soccer makes its way to Games with Gold in May. Featuring a massive line-up of football clubs from around the world, this Xbox 360 incarnation sees the 90s classic born anew.
Overlord 2: Casting players as the eponymous Overlord, this Fantasy-set action RPG sees you go up against an Empire-like enemy using your combat skills and governing various minions. You’ll need these underlings to overcome several obstacles and challenges, riding forth with them into new lands and collecting new ones as you go. This series has sadly since been retired, so use this opportunity to check out one of Overlord’s best entries.
PS4 players that take pleasure in simulating real-life tasks have hit the motherload this month, with both City Skylines and Farming Simulator 19 becoming available on May 5th. Thankfully this isn’t too long to wait and still gives you plenty of time to download last month’s PS Plus games. However, if you can’t wait, here’s a more detailed breakdown of what to expect from May’s two PS Plus games.
Cities Skylines: Arguably the best modern city-builder game around, Cities: Skylines lets you experience all of the challenge and hardship that comes with building a modern metropolis from the ground up. It features a full transport system, pretty much every type of building you can think of and a plethora of authentic gameplay scenarios. Cities Skylines is ultimately more satisfying because of it.
Farming Simulator 19: As you’ll soon discover when first starting out in Farming Simulator 19, there’s plenty more to farming that solely driving tractors. This was the simulation entry to prove it, featuring the largest amount of driveable vehicles ever seen in the series and several different types of crop and livestock for you to take care of. Farming Simulator 19 might seem meticulous, but then that’s the point. The result is actually one of the most relaxing experiences worth checking out.
