Call of Duty: Modern Warfare outsells Black Ops 4, places no.1 in the UK sales chart

Following on from top-tier reviews, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) has now gunned its way straight to the top of the UK charts after its first weekend on sale. Granted, this position only accounts for physical game sales so far, but the UKIE/GfK top ten for the week ending October 26^th already shows that it’s shifted 39% more units than last year’s Call of Duty, Black Ops 4.

Admittedly, Modern Warfare did have a bit of an open goal net, only going up against The Outer Worlds and MediEvil on its Friday release. The Outer Worlds had an admirable sales start by ranking 4^th in the chart, but it’s inclusion on Xbox Game Pass day one will have most certainly limited its sales potential somewhat. MediEvil, meanwhile, is a platform exclusive to PlayStation 4.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare removed FIFA 20 from the top spot, which fell one space to no.2, and it’s worth noting that the majority of physical games sales were geared towards PS4. Again, unsurprising since there are plenty more PS4 consoles out there in the wild than there are Xbox One units. The real boon here is that Modern Warfare has beaten Black Ops 4’s initial sales.
