If you’re still reeling after Wednesday’s reveal of the Nintendo Switch Lite, don’t worry. We wouldn’t blame you. Rumours of it had been circling for so long that it’d seemed like something players would have to will into existence themselves, but then Nintendo surprised everybody by making a smaller, more affordable Nintendo Switch a reality. However, in case you were holding out for a possible “Pro” model as well, Nintendo has ruled out the launch of another new Switch model in 2019.

This news comes out of a report from CNET, in which Nintendo’s President of America Doug Bowser (not a joke!) expressed that the Nintendo Switch Lite “will be the only new Nintendo Switch hardware this holiday”. Of course, that doesn’t mean we won’t see a souped-up Nintendo Switch with improved graphics at all, just that it won’t be this year.

While Nintendo games aren’t necessarily notable for their cutting-edge visuals, many fans had been hoping that the Nintendo Switch Lite would be followed up by another new Switch model that would sit at the other end of the spectrum – one that would feature some extra horsepower. Turns out that the original Switch launched in 2017 will still be the most pro player focussed.

The current Nintendo Switch is getting a slight upgrade (as revealed by Eurogamer's Digital Foundry) via a new, updated version of the Switch’s current Tegra X1 processor. Bowser’s previous comments, however, make this very clear that this isn’t the fabled Switch Pro.

We at Gaming Deals are firmly in that camp that with games as stunning as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing anyway.
