Xbox Game Pass was already one of the greatest deals in gaming, offering players access to a constantly rotating library of games for as little as £7.99 per month. Now, however, those who subscribe to the premium, Ultimate version of Xbox Game Pass that covers both PC as well as your Xbox One console are about to get an even sweeter deal as Project xCloud joins the service from September.

Project xCloud is, of course, Microsoft’s streaming service and main contender to Google Stadia, which allows players to stream games either from the cloud or their Xbox One to a wide array of mobile devices. Up until now, players needed to be formally invited to the Project xCloud beta in order to take part, but this seemingly confirms that the service will soon enter its full release.

It’s currently unknown whether Project xCloud will be released as a separate subscription for those who aren’t Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members. But if the Head of Xbox Phil Spencer’s comments on the recent Xbox Wire blog post are anything to go by, it’s all part of Microsoft’s plan to maintain a shared Xbox eco-system going into the next console generation, as opposed to Sony who hopes to transfer as many players as possible from PS4 to PS5.

Here’s what Phil Spencer had to say:

“We want every Xbox player to play all the new games from Xbox Game Studios," outlined Spencer. "That's why Xbox Game Studios titles we release in the next couple of years - like Halo Infinite - will be available and play great on Xbox Series X and Xbox One. We won't force you to upgrade to Xbox Series X at launch to play Xbox exclusives.

He continued: "Your Xbox One gaming accessories come into the future with you, too. The Xbox Elite Controller and Xbox Adaptive Controller all work on Xbox Series X, so you don't have to purchase new controllers. Unlike others, we believe that your investments in gaming should move with you into the next generation."

We’ll be sure to update you as soon as we hear what Project xCloud will cost for those without and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Until then, the gaming giant looks to very much be doubling down on the ongoing streaming wars.
