It’s turning out to be a big news week for the Resident Evil franchise. Yesterday’s PlayStation State of Play may have finally revealed the not-so secret news that an RE 3 Remake was incoming, but in addition to a release date of 3rd April 2020 Capcom also revealed another cool news nugget via the announcement’s official press release sent out soon after.
Released in January of this year, Capcom has announced an impressive new milestone for the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2. As it turns out, this enhanced and reimagined version has now sold more copies than the original PS One game that inspired it. In terms of numbers: Resident Evil 2 (2019) has sold more than five million copies worldwide, placing it just ahead of the original Resident Evil 2’s 4.96 million copies sold.
You have to imagine that Capcom must be immensely pleased with this result for a series that was, until recently, very much on the rocks after Resident Evil 6’s mixed critical reception. It bodes well for Resident Evil 3’s arrival next April, which arguably has more to entice players and keep them gripped to the horror for longer thanks to the included multiplayer mode.
In the meantime, if you’re yet to experience the scares of Leon and Claire’s original zombie-fuelled adventure, pick it up for the lowest price on PS4 and Xbox One below:
