The ongoing pandemic has led video game developers and the publishers behind them to think out of the box when it comes to promoting their games over the summer period. Usually folks like EA, Ubisoft and Activision would team up with a platform-holder (or hold their own press conferences) at E3 in order to tantalise players with what’s in store, but now we’re hearing about how digital showcases are set to take their place.
Ubisoft is the latest to do this, having announced a new “E3-style” event set to take place this July 12th.
Something like this was previously teased by the France-based develop back in March, following E3’s official cancellation earlier this year. The news of “Ubisoft Forward”, as this digital event is being called, was revealed on Twitter, with Ubisoft telling followers to save the date while promising “exclusive game news, reveals and more”. Colour us intrigued!
This surprise declaration comes soon after the likes of IGN Summer of Gaming (Early June), GameSpot Play For All (Early June), Summer Games Fest (May-Aug) and more were already announced. And while EA has also made clear that they’ll be attempting to replicate their traditional EA Play broadcast that goes out each year, Ubisoft Forward is notable for being nothing like the large-scale publisher has attempted before. We’re particularly interested by the mention of “reveals”, as its been a long while since we heard more about Watch Dogs Legion, Gods & Monsters and Rainbow Six.
Ubisoft failed to mention what games in particular we’ll hear more about, but it’d be safe to assume that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be heavily spotlighted, as will the games listed above. May we even see what ended up happening with Skull and Bones’ development struggles? We don’t have to wait long to find out. Ubisoft Forward will broadcast on July 12th at 8pm here in the UK.
