Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree had its first trailer last week and also had its release date announced which proved that the leak we also told you about with the DLC being set to release on June 21st was true.
Alongside the DLC being announced FromSoftware also showed us some new Elden Ring editions that include the DLC as well as a brand new collector's edition with plenty of physical goodies for the superfans of the series. We thought you might like to know exactly what you get in these new editions as well as where you can order them here in the UK, keep in mind stock will be scarce for the collector's edition.
Oh, we'll also let you know where to grab the DLC on its own if you already have the game and just want to know how much the DLC is going to set you back. If you pre-order any of the editions below you will get a bonus gesture that can be used in-game but this can be unlocked in the DLC anyway later on so don't worry if you miss out on the pre-order period.
Table of contents:
A lot of fans of Elden Ring probably already own the game, it'd be a bit strange if not. If this is the case it's most likely that you're just looking to pick up the DLC and do not want to purchase the game for a 2nd time, though obviously if you're switching platforms or something like that you may want to anyway let's get into how much the DLC will cost.
The base price is going to be £34.99 for the DLC so if you're on PlayStation this is what you're going to pay at release because there's no other option than that PlayStation Store. For Xbox and PC, you may be able to grab the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC a bit cheaper thanks to third-party key retailers like CDKeys, they already have the PC Steam version for £25.49 which is just under £10 off which is a pretty significant saving compared to console prices. Xbox currently is only available at the Xbox store however so from there it's going to be £34.99 but hopefully, some key retailers will have copies as we get closer to release, I'd advise holding off before pre-ordering for that reason.
Whilst £34.99 may seem a lot for a DLC this is more of an expansion it seems, Hidetaka Miyazaki has already mentioned that the DLC is a similar size if not bigger than Limgrave which is the first zone in Elden Ring and is a significant portion of the game. How long and how much content this will provide will be down to how dense the area is with dungeons, catacombs and what new spells and weapons will be made available. I will say FromSoftware have a proven track record with their DLC adding great boss fights and generally adding great value to what is already a fantastic base. Elden Ring is a game that I want to support so paying this price for more content feels worth it to me but keep in mind if you can hold off and not pre-order the DLC will eventually fall in price and be discounted just like the base game has been.
Just a quick note that there is also a premium bundle available with the DLC which will also net you a digital art book and a digital copy of the original soundtrack, this is priced at £39.99.
The Elden Ring Shadow of The Erdtree Edition is a great option for those of you who are yet to play Elden Ring or are looking to switch to another platform to play the expansion. There are no thrills here really it's simply a copy of the base game of Elden Ring alongside the DLC and the pre-order bonus gesture.
The RRP for this one is £69.99 on consoles but you can save quite a big chunk by going physical as you can see above. If you are looking to purchase this version I'd recommend going physical if your console allows it and when it comes to the PC I think you're better off buying the game and DLC separately as you'll be able to save a bit of money. Buying separately is also worth considering if you want to play the base game before the DLC which I would advise. Elden Rings is a big game, it can take over 100 hours to finish the base game so there's a lot to sink your teeth into before the DLC content I think it's well worth knowing you like the game and enjoy it before doubling down with the DLC.
