The wait is (almost) over. The Xbox One X is last remaining major piece of hardware launching this year (and for the foreseeable future), and it's now available to pre-order for £449.99 at a range of different retailers.
Launching November 7th, in time for the big Q4 holiday rush, the One X takes the groundwork laid by the original One and the One S and builds upon it. The net result is the most powerful home console ever, capable of running games in 4K resolution at 60 FPS. The One X - previously known as the Scorpio - will be compatible with all existing Xbox One games, many of which will be enhanced by the X's increased power. Going forward, certain optimised games will specifically be marked as 'Xbox One X Enhanced'.
There are two main variants on the One X available to pre-order. The first is the standard console, which comes with a controller and a 1TB hard-drive capacity. The second is the Project Scorpio Edition, a special version of the console which features different cosmetics accents on the case and the Scorpio name on the special edition controller. The two versions of the console are identical inside.
Given the price that the special Day One edition of the original Xbox One now commands, the Scorpio special edition may well prove a wise investment for the future, too.
Currently, there aren't expected to be any 'hard' bundles (i.e. bundles where a game is featured on the One X box) for the One X for at least the first few months following its launch. We also don't expect to see any significant price discounts on the One X during the Black Friday/ Cyber Monday period, though it is possible that some retailers will have discount codes that work across their entire gaming sections. We do expect, however, that some retailers will sell the One X bundled with what amounts to an almost-free game.
