The new consoles might finally be out (and possibly in your home) but December proves that it’ll be a fair while until we see more games release that take full advantage of the next-gen hardware. Instead, next month is one filled with several oddities and quirky titles with just a few juggernauts thrown in for good measure. Sure, one is CDProjektRed’s long-awaited magnum opus that’s been in development for close to 10 years, but this means that other games have understandably gotten out of the way.
In this blog we’ll be running through all the big games releasing on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch for the month of December. Christmas month might be a good month to catch up on all the earlier Triple-A hits you likely picked up in the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales, yet there might still be a treat you’ve been holding out for. Let’s take a look at what’s in store…
Dontnod Entertainment already received a lot of praise this year for its release of Tell Me Why, an interactive adventure that was the first to prominently feature a transgender character. Well, the developer isn’t quite done with 2020 just yet, as Twin Mirror releases on December 1st to let you play as an investigative journalist solving a crime. Set in a fictionalised town based in southern West Virginia, you’ll be asked to traverse both the real world and your mind palace to get dig under the unravelling mystery.
Ubisoft had already proven its affinity for all things Greek Mythology with the release of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey back in 2018, but now they’re returning to it with new open-world adventure Immortals FenyxRising. You play as the titular hero, solving puzzles and doing battle with enemies as you gain more powerful abilities to let you better navigate this super-stylised world. Monsters waiting for you include minotaurs and cyclopses, all of which will challenge your flexible combat ability. Experience an adventure fit for the gods in Immortals Fenyx Rising on December 3rd.

CDProjektRed’s highly anticipated Future-set RPG has been in the works for quite some time. Following on from the immense success of TheWitcher 3: Wild Hunt from 2015, Cyberpunk 2077 winds the clock future into the dystopian setting of Night City, where human augmentation is the norm and neon-laden city streets are around every corner. It’s the ultimate cyberpunk playground in which to wreak havoc or act as the city’s saviour. Either way, PS4 and Xbox One players should look forward to hacking through it, finally, on December 10th.
