All the major announcements made at the PS5 ‘future of gaming’ event

Well, they finally did it. Tonight Sony finally gave us a good look at a whole host of PS5 games we’ll soon get to play. Beginning with a nostalgic montage of classic PlayStation hits, it didn’t take long for the wall-to-wall game announcements to come thick and fast.

There were so many, in fact, that we wouldn’t blamed you if you missed something. Luckily, we’ve rounded up everything announced during the show. Let’s dive in…

The PlayStation 5 console revealed!

One of the most striking consoles PlayStation has ever released, PS5’s default colour isn’t in Black but White. There were two different versions revealed, one with a disc drive and one without, leaning into the idea that Sony have their eyes firmly set on some sort of digital future. However, for now, PS5 players will have the choice. There's still yet no pre-order price, but here’s what it looks like:

Games that appeared in the show

• GTA V was confirmed to be coming to PlayStation 5 in early 2021 – with GTA Online free to PS Plus members at launch.
• Coming to PS5 in Holiday 2020, Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a new standalone entry into Insomniac’s hit open-world game will see players take on the reigns of Miles Morales in an all new adventure.
• Racing enthusiasts got their fix with a first ever look at Gran Turismo 7 by way of a cinematic trailer. We also got a brief glimpse of in-engine gameplay.
• Insomniac Games didn’t have just one game to show off at the event, as a second one was revealed in Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart. Unlike 2016’s release, however, this isn’t a remake of an existing PS2 game, but a totally original entry with new characters, environments and enemies. No release date was given, but it looks brighter and better in every way.

• Designed exclusively for PlayStation 5, Project Athia seems to be a new IP with an emphasis on adventurous platforming. It features a female protagonist able to use environmental abilities… Oh, and there’s a dragon. Sign us up!
• If you’re a cat person then you’ll want to pay attention to Stray. A high-budget game being published by Annapurna, you’ll be able to experience a dystopian world from street-level.
• If abstract worlds are your thing, you’ll definitely be interested in Housemarque’s new game. Returnal represents a marked step away from the developer’s usual schtick, being a full-scale Triple-A third-person shooter as opposed to being viewed from the top-down.
• We should have known you couldn’t have a PlayStation console launch without a Little Big Planet game. This one comes by way of Sumo Digital in the aptly titled Sackboy A Big Adventure. It looks to be another well-made and cutesy 3D platformer.

• Ember Lab might be a studio most known for their film and TV work, but they’ve definitely taken inspiration from the likes of Zelda and Beyond Good and Evil for this inventive 3D platformer. Kena Bridge of Spirits might be a mish-mash of popular genres, but looks like harmless fun.
• - It’s been a long time since we last saw a game set in Lorne Lanning’s Oddworld universe, but the event confirmed that a new one will be arriving on PS5. Oddworld Soulstorm looks like a really intense lemmings and we’re all for it.
• Though already previously announced, the new game from Hyper Light Drifter developer Heart Machine looks to be an artistic treat. Solar Ash makes the switch from top-down 2D platformer to 3D.
• We doubt many people were expecting anything from IO Interactive at this event, but Hitman III was announced nevertheless. It looks to be much gritter than previous entries, with all new global targets and ways to take them out. Death awaits January 2021.
• Not got a VR headset? Then you’ve probably not played the joy that is Astro Bot Rescue Mission. Thankfully, Team Asobi announced Astrobot Playroom for PlayStation 5.
• What’s better than a bur or a snack? When you combine them together, of course! That’s exactly the idea behind BugSnax, another cute and colourful platformer where the sentient fruit have eyes.
• After months of speculation, it was finally revealed that BluePoint Games – the team behind The Shadow of the Colossus remake – have been working on a remake of Demon Souls. Sure to appeal fans of its successor series, this one’s been a long time coming.

• It’s not often you get a first-person shooter that mixes time-travel mechanics with a Blaxploitation look and feel. Death Loop from Arkane Studios, however, is exactly that, tasking you to take down 8 assassins while breaking the loop.
• Capcom have been on a bit of a hotstreak with the Resident Evil games lately, between the remakes of 2 and 3 and the frightfully goof Resident Evil 7. That’s why it was exciting to get a glimpse at the Gothically themed Resident Evil 8 Village. Chris Redfield is the bad guy?
• The very Kojima-looking Pragmata had us scratching our heads towards the end of the show, depicting an astronaut attempting to save an AI child. It was definitely one of the most mysterious new IPS revealed at the show.
• Sony closed the show with our very first look at the sequel to Horizon: Zero Dawn. A PlayStation 5 exclusive, it will again follow Alloy on a new adventure, complete with never-before-seen type of robo-dinosaur. Expect Horizon Forbidden West sometime in the near future.
