While most modern first-person shooters are obsessed with being incredibly bleak or just as realistic as possible, players have always been able to rely on the Borderlands franchise for a more colourful take on the concept. This came to the fore in 2019 when Borderlands 3 finally released. And while Nintendo Switch players still won’t be able to lay that game, Gearbox is making up for it by pulling together a collection of every other Borderlands game in the main series.
Borderlands Legendary Collection easily lives up to its bold name, featuring the original Borderlands, Borderlands 2 and Borderlands The Pre-Sequel all in one neat package. What’s more, all three have never played and looked better, thanks to these being the HD editions that mark a huge step up from the originals. Follow the story of the fabled Vault Hunters, loot and shoot your way across the galaxy and enjoy glorious four-player online co-op doing it.
Three Borderlands games for the price of one on Nintendo Switch
Borderlands Legendary Collection marks the first time ever that any game from the series has come to a Nintendo platform. The fact that it’s the Switch specifically is doubly exciting, too, largely because you can now enjoy their cell-shaded shooting action on the go. Each of these games can take you upwards of 40 hours to fully complete, meaning that anyone who picks it up has potentially hundreds of hours to look forward to.
Four-player local/online co-op fully supported
Though taking the fight to psychos alone can be quite enjoyable, all of the Borderlands games are best enjoyed when shooting alongside friends. Luckily, all three of the games featured in Legendary Collection support this, with as many as four players able to join in on the adventure (either online or locally) at any one time.
Borderlands 1 and The Pre-Sequel go portable for the first time
While Borderlands 2 actually saw a portable release by way of the PS Vita in 2014, Legendary Collection features an enhance version that’s now comparable with its console counterpart. Not to mention how this is the only time both Pre-Sequel and the original game have been playable away from the big screen. It’s never been more flexible to jump into Borderlands.
