Looking for the ultimate first-person shooter sandbox in which to wreak havoc and have fun? Ubisoft’s Far Cry series has long been the go-to choice for this setting players off within a tropical paradise ruled by a raging dictator in need of taking down. From that standpoint, things look to very much be business as usual for Far Cry 6, only this time you’ll discover that paradise has a price.

The villain this time round is none other than Anton Castileroux, portrayed here by Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul’s Giancarlo Esposito. As the ruler of the fictional Latin-American city of Yara, he’s grooming his young son Diego to take over his empire and set off an explosion of chaos. It’s your hob as Danny, a native of Yara, to prevent that Chaos by taking down enemy camps and help the local people fight back.

Tight first-person shooter gunplay mixed with open-word traversal and next-gen graphics on PS5 and Xbox Series X

Much like other entries, Far Cry 6 maintains an emphasis on exploration by letting you roam the incredibly varied location of Yara – a fictional setting highly inspired by Cuba. It being fictional means that Ubisoft’s designers have been able to craft the ultimate FPS playground that doesn’t have to stick to the rules, meaning you’ll be able to progress from jungle to beach to more urban territories freely while unlocking several weapons.

A first for the series is how Far Cry 6 will often switch to a third-person view. Ubisoft has done this to help players better relate to the lead protagonist of Dani Rojas, who is attempting to stand against Castileroux’s corrupt reign. You’ll still be unleashing bullet storms and makeshift projectiles from a first-person view, don’t worry, but for more story-centric moments you’ll gain a new perspective on Yara as the story of Far Cry 6 unfolds.

Lead the resistance and bring peace back to Yara

Far Cry 6 will never let you forget the reason behind your bombastic actions. Yara is a city being torn apart by a political civil war, and you as a native must rise up in order to inspire the people hoping to take back their city. Anyone who opposes Anton now has a target on their back, now forced into labour camps that can help your resistance effort when rescued.

Gain the advantage with these pre-order bonuses

Anyone who pre-orders the PS4 or Xbox One version of Far Cry 6 can look forward to some unique rewards that should come in handy in-game. You’ll receive both a Libertad Chorizo outfit for one of your fangs-for-hire characters and a state-of-the-art Discos Locos CD launcher that will make you a force to be reckoned with when taking down enemies from afar.
