Forza Horizon 3 is one of the Xbox One’s best-selling titles, and with good reason. It’s combination of replayability, stunning graphics, huge selection of cars and accessible yet challenging gameplay has made it extraordinarily popular.

Forza Horizon 4 picks up where its predecessor left off, with a massive choice of both modern and classic cars and a wide range of events for you to partake in. Whether you like racing on twisting city streets, drifting around farmland or pulling off daring stunts, Forza Horizon 4 has plenty to keep you coming back for more.

Not only does Horizon 4 introduce new cars and even better graphics, but it shifts location from the sun-kissed beaches of Australia to the UK, taking in all the diversity that England, Scotland and Wales have to offer, from cities to rural towns to countryside.

Not only that, but it introduces completely dynamic seasons. This means all players will experience the same weather conditions – from damp spring to snowy winter – at the same time, and means that no two races will ever play out in quite the same manner.

What’s new in Forza Horizon 4?

Four games in and it’d be safe to say that developer Playground Games has excelled itself once again, delivering petrol heads more cars, challenges and tracks than they potential know what to do is. Forza Horizon 3’s Australian landscapes have been replaced with rainy Britain. Except, thanks to Forza Horizon 4’s shifting seasons, it doesn’t always have to be. Want to know if Forza Horizon’s latest will likely rev your engine? Let’s look under the hood and find out.

The freedom of driving through an open world

The incredibly detailed locations you’re able to drive through has always been a high point in Forza’s Horizon subset series of games. This time the expansive map sets you across a range of locations based in a fictionalised version of the UK, from Edinburgh, the Lake District and the Cotswolds, amongst others. All areas are filled with challenges to undertake and beautiful sights to see, as Forza Horizon 4 features one of the most vibrant open worlds ever in a driving game.

Experience changing seasons

Forza Horizon 4 makes use of dynamically changing seasons, where players can log in week-to-week and experience a different time of the year each time. The blistering blizzards of winter will feel different to drive in compared to a rustic lane in Autumn, as driving conditions force you to change, adapt and rethink you’re your tactics thanks to new routes and events opening up. Those playing on an Xbox One X will likely feel the full effect the changing seasons have to offer with improved 4K visuals and HDR lighting.

Drive over 450 unique cars

Many would argue that a driving game is only as good as the number of cars you are able to drive in it. Should that be the case, Forza Horizon 4 won’t leave you wanting. It features 450 cars from more than 1000 licensed manufacturers, resulting in the largest and most diverse roster to appear in the series yet. All are free to unlock in game, each offering a suite of customisation options such as driver personalisation and Drift Suspension upgrades.

Regularly refreshed challenges

Forza Horizon 4 offers driving enthusiasts plenty of reasons to keep coming back to experience historic Britain in all its glory – not least of them are the challenges, which are frequently refreshed to keep things interesting. What’s asked of you to do varies wildly depending the specific task you choose, but expect to be doing anything from outpacing an overhead fighter jet to avoiding an oncoming steam train.
