Having previously proved its interactive horror chops with brilliant PS4 exclusive Until Dawn, developer Supermassive Games are returning to the genre with The Dark Pictures Anthology – Man of Medan. It’s the first entry in a planned series cantered around player choice, casting players as a group of unwitting innocents who are suddenly thrust into a supernatural scenario.

In Man of Medan, five friends set sail for a holiday in the South Pacific when they eventually find themselves trapped in a sunken ship that is supposedly cursed. You’ll play as all five characters at some point in the story, guiding them through the location and making decisions as you attempt to survive long enough to solve the mystery.

An interactive horror film that promises plenty of scares

For all intents and purposes, playing through The Dark Pictures Anthology – Man of Medan is much like playing through an interactive horror film. This is not only due to the game’s unequivocally high budget which allows the character models to look incredibly realistic, but thanks to the types of decision you’ll make as each of the cast’s five characters. Always cursing at a horror protagonist’s choice to run up the stairs? Rectify this yourself in Man of Medan.

A fully branching narrative where the story twists and turns

No one person’s experience playing through The Dark Pictures Anthology – Man of Medan is likely to be the same. The story will adapt and move in different directions depending on your actions, with certain protagonists at risking of popping their clogs in multiple instances. How many characters will you be able to keep alive and will you solve the mystery of the ghost ship?

A cast of Hollywood A-listers

Aiding towards the movie-like feel of Man of Medan are a whole host of recognisable actors who deliver Hollywood-level performances. Chief amongst them is X-Men and The Following’s Shawn Ashmore, most known for playing Ice Man and has previously acted in video games via Remedy’s Quantum Break. Ayisha Issa (Warm Bodies, Immortals) also features as the character of Fliss.
