Wasteland is a strategy series that merges top-down RPG mechanics with the post-apocalyptic genre. Players engage in thrilling turn-based combat in a bid to stay alive and press on, making various choices that can have drastic ramifications on the outcome of the story. Wasteland 3 will be the second entry to come to current-gen consoles, providing its own unique set of challenges.
Wasteland 3 can be played entirely solo or enjoyed alongside friends, being a story-driven experience where the decisions you make dictate unique narrative paths. You’ll explore the frozen future-set version of Colorado, facing off against enemy factions and taking on giant mechs all in the hopes of not making too many sacrifices.
Much like XCOM, gameplay in Wasteland 3 is entirely based around squad members – and more specifically how you choose to use them. You can have up to 5 different rangers assigned to your squad at any one time, customising them with unique skills and attributes to gain the best leg up possible. You’re even given a battle truck that acts as your mobile base. Beef it up and pack in weapons so that you’re always prepared.
Wasteland 3 is an inherently flexible experience, boasting a story that will adapt and change depending on how you perform in battle scenarios. Also contributing towards this are the many moral choices you’ll be forced to make. Will you slay the innocent or offer them mercy while incurring risk for your own people? Wasteland 3 lets you think strategically in and out of combat.
On top of added vehicles, new environmental dangers and a revamped action system, Wasteland 3 features a more realistic world than ever before. This is thanks, in part, to a new engine, which sees this snowy rendition of Colorado set a distinctly moody atmosphere. You might be viewing it from an isometric perspective, but you won’t be able to help getting immersed.
