The highly anticipated sequel to Halo 5: Guardians, it’s not an accident that the subtitle to Xbox Series X first Halo game indicates an evolution of sorts for the hallmark first-person shooter franchise. Halo Infinite aims to usher in a new era for Master Chief, harnessing the power of Microsoft’s fourth console to recreate a similar feeling of the unknown that the original Halo: Combat Evolved once evoked back in 2001.
Halo Infinite will feature the same tight first-person shooting the series is known for, merging it with environments that are much more open this time around. The result is the ability for players to approach fire fight scenarios in a way that suits them, choosing to go loud head on or from a more tactical direction. Unsurprisingly, this new entry will offer players infinite potential compared to prior games. Halo infinite will also harness the power of the Xbox Series X to take immersion and gameplay to the next-gen level. 4K resolutions and higher framerates all lead to a better gameplay experience.
Halo Infinite is the planned third and final chapter of the Halo sequel trilogy, known as the “Reclaimer Saga”, and will bring the story of Master Chief to its end. As such, developer 343 Studios have focussed on creating a narrative that is “much more human” when compared to, say, Halo 5: Guardians. It’s a story 19 years in the making, never looking better thanks to the power of Xbox Series X.
Battling the Covenant with friends is better than doing it alone, so it makes sense for Halo Infinite to support both online co-op play alongside traditional split-screen. The latter has been an important component of the experience since the early days of Halo, now returning once again to indicate Halo Infinite’s willingness to pay homage to the past while introducing some new.
Featuring a brand new game engine named Slipspace, Halo Infinite has been built from the ground up to take on the demands of the highly ambitious new title. Because of this Halo’s sixth mainline entry promises to be one of the biggest and best games yet. Particularly for those playing on the souped-up Xbox One X, the graphical prowess of Slipspace will be truly felt.
