Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot and Rocket Racoon are the latest Marvel superheroes to get the video game treatment, all thanks to a new space-set action game coming to PlayStation, Xbox and even Nintendo Switch later this year. Guardians of the Galaxy is a totally single-player experience from the developer behind Deus Ex and Shadow of the Tomb Raider – that’s how you know this zany Sci-Fi universe will be a fun one to fight through.

The game may feature all members of the titular supergroup, but Square Enix have done well to not overload players by having players solely play as Star-Lord. This alone provides a great deal of combat variety, though, thanks to the character’s mix of melee and ranged weaponry skills. He’ll get more powerful and level up the more the adventure goes on, transforming into someone the rest of the Guardians feel happy to call their leader.

Explore and fight through an adventure with Star-Lord and his team on PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles.

Though not specifically based on the versions of the team seen in the MCU, those that are privy to Marvel’s silver screen efforts will recognise personality traits in all members of the squad. Square Enix’s Guardians of the Galaxy weaves an original story that takes place within its own universe, tasking you to save the universe after a catastrophic event kicks off early on in the game.

Use Star-Lords eclectic arsenal to stay on top

Star-Lord comes equipped with his signature double blasters. However, there’s also a suite of other tools that also come in handy during a fight. Jet boots, for example, allow you to perform fire-powered dropkicks, as well as boosting around environments to make a quick getaway. There will even be opportunities to perform tag-team beatdowns with your fellow Guardians.

Battle to the mix of a thumping ‘80s soundtrack

As is typically the case whenever the Guardians throw down against a universal threat, you’ll be able to do so while bopping to the sound of an all-star ‘80s soundtrack. Featuring artists like Rick Astley, Kid Rock, Iron Maiden, KISS and more, Guardians of the Galaxy makes a great case for having one of the most bopping video game licenced soundtracks ever. Blasting away enemies has never sounded so good.
