Octopath Traveler II Announcement Trailer

Experience an unforgettable adventure in Octopath Traveler II on PC, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch

The Octopath Traveler series is getting a new entry this year with Octopath Traveler II, the 2018 entry was a gorgeous RPG with a lot of things going for it and very much deserved a sequel. Whilst the first Octopath Traveler game was not perfect one thing it most certainly did do right was its art style which combines retro pixel art and 3DCG to create such an absolutely gorgeous world. We're excited to see how Square Enix takes this forward with the new setting of Solistia in the sequel.

Octopath Traveler II will see players take 8 new travellers through a story forged by the paths they take and the tales they bring to life. These 8 travellers all have intriguing backstories to uncover and experience as you embark on your very own adventure through the world of Solistia. Solistia is separated by a sea into east and west continents, that you will be able to sail across as you explore every corner of the world experiencing diverse cultures and a flourishing world enriched with new industries. A day and night cycle is also being added in Octopath Traveler II with different stories and secrets available depending on both location and whether it is day or night. The inhabitants of this world are very varied, some fortunate living a life of luxury juxtaposed by those who are wartorn and plagued by disease and poverty.

Octopath Traveler II is a standalone title with its own story so don't worry too much if you haven't played the first one! However, it's definitely worth giving a chance.

Eight protagonists to play as, all with their own stories

As the games name suggests and as was key to the original game the Octopath Traveler series features 8 protagonists to play as. Each of these travellers hail from different regions with their own unique motivations, stories and skills.

You begin by choosing one of the 8 characters and then on your adventures will meet the others. How you interact with the world both in and out of battle will vary depending on which travellers make up your party as each has their own set of Path Actions which can be used to take on townspeople in battle, find new useful items and recruit new members to their party. Path Actions add a lot of flavour to each character as they directly link to the character's class, background and personality. There will be tonnes of replayability here as you forge your own path in Octopath Traveler II.

The Break and Boost system is back and now with all new improvements with Latent Power

The strategic turn-based combat of Octopath Traveler is one of its strongest selling points. The Break and Boost system is definitely a big part of this, with each turn you accumulate Boost Points which can then be channelled into different moves in order to give you a tactical advantage. For example, you could increase how much damage you dealt that turn to quickly dispatch a dangerous foe or increase the power of a healing ability to save that low-health party member. This system adds a lot of depth to the combat. Although simple you must carefully consider where you spend your boost points or you could easily be overrun in the challenging battles of Octopath Traveler II.

The combat system has been further refined from the first game adding a mechanic called Latent Power. Latent Power is a gauge that is filled as you damage an enemy and when full will allow the character to pull off a devastating new ability. Latent Power can really turn the tide of battle when you're under pressure from some of the harrowing bosses of Octopath Traveler II.
