The Callisto Protocol Trailer
The Callisto Protocol Overview

Experience the ultimate in Sci-Fi survival horror on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation this December 2nd

From the makers of the very first Dead Space comes The Callisto Protocol, an appropriately bleak spiritual successor to the EA game that originally kicked off and then solidified the appeal of over-the-shoulder survival horror.

Set in the far future of 2320 you’ll play as Jacob Lee, a space freighter pilot turned prison inmate doing time on Jupiter’s dead moon of Callisto. Soon after the arrival of suspicious cargo, however, Jacob attempts to break out and defend himself against a terrifying alien force that has started to infect the local population, transforming them into all kinds of disfigured horror. Is it a complete accident or a plan constructed by the shady United Jupiter organization? Finding out means navigating the rapidly deteriorating prison of Black Iron and choosing your friends carefully.

The Callisto Protocol places explicit focus on tense, up-close combat designed to test your nerves. Jacob himself can equip a range of blunt objects and instruments, all of which can do serious damage to the various night terrors. There’s a gun system, too, and much like Dead Space before it the most effective ways to incapacitate mutant enemies in The Callisto Protocol is to dismember them piece by piece.

Explore the creepy environment of Black Iron Prison

The entire adventure takes place in the grizzly, lived-in location of Black Iron prison. You’ll traverse its blood-drenched corridors, halls, and cells in search of answers, taking your time to assess every turn and corner so as to not get caught off guard by unseen horrors. If you’ve ever wanted to traverse a futuristic prison, The Callisto Protocol’s setting is just a strong a character as Jacob himself, being incredibly well realised to keep players on their toes.

Strategic combat keeps enemy encounters tense

Fending off mutated inmates and other horrors relies heavily on dismemberment, where hacking and blasting off limbs acts as the most effective strategy. Jacob has a range of different ranged and melee weapons to make doing this feel fulfilling – there’s a device for every occasion and enemy type. Plus, The Callisto Protocol features a unique gravity weapon that allows you to use your environment to the enemy’s disadvantage, letting you get creative with the ways you choose to dispatch any ghoulish threat lurking around the corner.

A story-driven survival horror dripping in lore and character

As an original game set in a totally new universe, developer Striking Distance has been careful to construct and deepen it with plenty of context for players to seek out. In between battling mutated and disfigured threats Jacob will have plenty of opportunities to explore and take in the sights, both of which will teach you more about how Black Iron Prison came to be and what stories might potentially lay ahead in future beyond The Callisto Protocol.
